Unsure what type of scale you need? Check out our quick and simple guide to the different types of scale available.
A Truck Scale is a vehicle scale designed specifically to weigh trucks and heavy vehicles. Available as pit-mounted (flush with the road) or surface-mounted (accessed via a ramp), truck scales come in steel or concrete. Accordingly, this enables them to be used in a variety of demanding environments. Truck scales are commonly known as Weighbridges outside the US. For more information, visit our Truck Scale Buyers Guide or browse our range of vehicle scales by visiting the truck scale product pages.
Also known as weight displays, indicators are the brains of any weighing operation. As well as displaying weight data on a clear and easy to read screen, weight indictors collect and communicate data which can improve accuracy and optimize revenue – be it complex recipe formulation, process control and /or transmission of data for back office management. Weight indictors can be paired with a range of scales to create a complete weighing system. For more information, visit our Weight Indicators product page.
The load cell is an integral part of any scale and is responsible for measuring the weight or force applied. In fact, the load cell converts the force of the load into an electrical signal. This is then read and displayed by a weight indictor. Load cells come in a range of different sizes, shapes and capacities to suit different weighing systems and applications – from vessel weighers to intrinsically safe systems and from highly accurate cells that can detect the tiniest of weight changes, to rugged cells ideal for vehicle weighing. A forklift scale makes it possible to lift, weigh, move and record a load in one operation. Forklift scales consist of a scale unit bolted onto a standard forklift carriage, delivering reliable weighing even if the forklift mast is tilted or the load is off-center. The forklift scale’s built-in system and in-cab weight display allow operators to accurately weigh materials while in transit, saving time and improving profitability. A bench scale is a scale designed primarily for use on a bench or table top. Sometimes known as a table-top scale, bench scales can be used for weighing, checkweighing and counting applications. Designed either as an all-in-one unit with built-in weight display, or as a stand-alone bench base accompanied by a weight indictor, bench scales are available in a range of sizes and capacities. For more information, visit our Bench Scale product page.
Cargo scales, as the name suggests, were originally developed to weigh air cargo containers in the freight industry. Due to their accuracy and durability, as well as features such as overload protection, rollers, swivel casters and sloping sides for easy loading, cargo scales can actually be used in a range of industrial applications. For more information, visit our Bench Scale product page.
Checkweighing scales are generally used at the end of a production line to verify that the weight of goods falls within a certain tolerance. On a food production line, for example, fast and accurate checkweighing is vital to a company’s bottom line – overweight packages lead to product giveaway, while underweight packages result in unhappy customers. Conveyor scales are integrated into a conveyor system in order to weigh items as they pass along a conveyor. They operate while the conveyor is in motion and are intended for the weighing of individual boxes, cartons, cans or unpackaged products such as large cuts of meat. For more information, visit our Conveyor Scales page.
Counting scales are designed to efficiently count high volumes of identical parts. Often used in manufacturing processes, counting scales can weigh small parts extremely accurately. A counting scale is ideal for inventory control and minimises the errors often found when parts are hand-counted. For more information, visit our Counting Scales product page.
Also known as platform scales and deck scales, floor scales are large flat scales that sit directly on, or recessed into, the floor. Made to withstand tough environments and shock overloading, floor scales are often situated in the middle of a warehouse, allowing loads and forklifts easy access to roll on and off the scale. For more information, visit our Floor Scales product page.
Rail weighing scales are used to weigh cargo either statically or in motion. They are crucial in virtually every aspect of rail operation, from monitoring product deliveries and invoicing, to avoiding overloading penalties and associated damage to rail infrastructure.
