The new Mobile Picking Solution (MPS) has been recognised in the ‘Innovation’ category, which looks for businesses that have demonstrated a bold and innovative response to the changing market, by the introduction of new technology, products or processes.
The Mobile Picking Solution offers a true innovation to the warehousing and logistics markets. The MPS was developed as a result of in-depth research into customer pain points which found that picking accuracy and efficiency demanded a lot of time and resource, and were very difficult to get right.
The MPS workstation is a mobile system that brings technology to the point of pick, to eliminate manual counting and verify pick accuracy. The system comes equipped with a high-resolution Avery Weigh-Tronix ZK840 advanced counting scale, barcode scanner, battery power supply and printer. This combination means that verifying pick accuracy (part and quantity) is as simple as scanning and placing parts on the scale.
Since its launch in early 2018, the MPS has been successfully implemented into the parts picking operation of Vaillant Industrial UK Ltd, one of Europe’s leading heating technology manufacturers.
Vaillant were experiencing issues during production, with assemblers running out of components due to short or incorrect picks. This resulted in halted production and missed production efficiency targets. By introducing the MPS at the point of pick, Vaillant have increased pick accuracy by 9% and reduced downtime in their production assembly.
Stewart Campbell, Market Manager – Logistics, commented; “As a business, we’re extremely proud to be recognised for the hard work that has gone into the development of the MPS. It’s quite fitting that this recognition comes in the same year we celebrate our 200th year of innovations, as it proves Avery Weigh-Tronix are still continuing to innovate to meet the changing demands of our customers.”
