Annual increases in landfill tax rates potentially puts landfill site operators at greater risk of fraud from those disposing of waste.

Paul Hines, Innovation Director for Avery Weigh-Tronix said: “With this rise in landfill tax comes the increased risk of those looking to cut corners and dodge a higher tax bill.

“This rise could increase fraud risk further, in the form of misdeclaration of goods or manipulating a weighbridge to make savings.

“It’s crucial that landfill site operators protect themselves against attempted fraud, but it’s not always easy to build additional checks and controls into a working operation without disruption.
